Bees rarely find their way into empty beehive boxes, even though they are designed to be a perfect home for them.

There are a number of ways of starting a colony, from buying a package of bees, to receiving a hive split or catching a swarm.

We also have a range of videos and blogs to help you understand the different ways in which you can source bees for your new hive.

The amount of honey for harvesting depends on many factors, including hive strength, local climate and available forage.

When the Flow Super is full, you can expect to harvest approximately 3 kg (6.5 lb) per Flow Frame.

A 6 Frame Flow Hive can hive up to 18 kg (39 lb), and a 7 Frame Flow Hive can hive up to 21 kg (44 lb) of fresh, unfiltered honey each time the honey super is completely full.

When harvesting it's important to remember to leave enough honey stores for your colony to see them through the winter. Lessons on harvesting are provided on TheBeekeeper.org as well as weekly livestreamed lessons from the inventor on social media.

Flow Hives are perfect for setting-up just about anywhere.

You will need enough space to access the back of the hive for easy harvesting and your bees will require a clear space at the front of the hive for their flight path.

You'll also need to check-in with local governing bodies to find out if there are any regulations that you need to be aware of.

Here are some of our top tips on where to set up your beehive.

Almost certainly yes - bees can be kept just about anywhere that plants bloom for at least part of the year. We’ve got customers in 130 countries - keeping hives on urban balconies and rooftops, in suburban gardens, or on large rural blocks.

Customers are always amazed by how unique each Flow Hive harvest is. This is because our revolutionary system lets you harvest your honey one frame at a time. This way you can appreciate the unique flavours and subtle aromas of your local area.

Bees forage on a wide variety of flowering plants, and tend to fill cells in succession one frame at a time. This results in honeycomb frames which can look, smell and taste unique.
